PART 2: BEARD OIL - What is it and why do I need it?

Have you ever heard someone say “hey, nice clean shaven face brother”? Unlikely… “hey, love your beard” is more like it… So let’s look at the part of the beard oil that’s going to make you totally kissable. We know you want your girl snuggling in, not pushing that steel wool brush away….

This week we’re looking at our favourite part of a beard oil – the essential oils.

Essential oils are what make beard oils smell ah-mazing…. They are good for the hair, help with acne (yes, we are all disappointed those pimples didn’t disappear with the teenage years), dandruff and beardruff, redness, and itch.

Just like perfume and aftershave, essential oils have top, middle and base notes. Let’s look at four of the essential oils you may find in some of your favourite beard oils.

Lavender

Soothing and healing on the skin, lavender oil is great for acne, rashes, eczema, dandruff, itching, rashes, wrinkles(!) ,hair loss, dry and fragile hair, skin inflammation…. we could go on!  Could it get any better?  Well apparently, yes.  Have you heard that lavender is an aroma aphrodisiac? Say no more…

Cedarwood

Woodsy. Manly. Oh yeah.

Helpful for acne, oily skin and psoriasis. Antiseptic and anti-inflammatory, cedarwood oil has often been used as a natural mosquito and insect repellent… going camping? Maybe this one will keep those pests away?  But if not, it’s still anti-fungal, bound to help with an itchy beard.

Tea Tree

Very popular for acne, dermatitis, eczema, inflammation and rashes. Tea tree oil is a well known oil and is generally good for healthy skin.  It is also antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory.

Patchouli

Rich and earthy, this is a woody, calming and grounding scent. Helpful for most skin types particularly with acne and itchy skin.

Remember, your beard is sensitive. The skin on your face is different to your head, and there is less hair there protecting it. You need to look after your beard and oiling is one of the ways to do it.

Your face is what people notice first.  Make sure you use products that are going to work for you!

Until next time, stay classy you handsome devils!
