This is a replica sundial, originally for the hours of prayers or masses.

The original jewel, dating from about the 10th century, was found in Canterbury Cathedral, UK. 

The quadrant is updated for 50º latitude. 

The clock should be suspended, facing the sun to make the measurements like any other altitude sundial, by inserting the bar into the hole of the corresponding month. (H 96).
